Rant Archive - Video Games
A loosely confederated bunch of rants
Once again, a video game has taken over my spare time. When I'm not working, or eating, or other necessary evils of maintaining life, I am playing Resident Evil 4.
It's a good game, lots of excellent violence, and plenty of gore. Although, there are times when I die and get frustrated, or worse the second character I'm supposed to be protecting dies. For the people who ... read on
Today Microsoft came out with their games that may or may not appeal to Japanese gamers, in an attempt to grab more of the Japanese market, which they are doing horribly in. Good for them. They need to do something. However, after I finished reading the article, I took a look at the comments on the site where I found this information, and it was nothing but lame fanboys fo ... read on There is nothing wrong with being a fanboy, there is a problem however, with being a complete jackass. If you really, really love your Xbox360, feel free to engage in sexual congress with it, or your PLAYSTATION3, if that's what gets you going. Going on the Interweb and running off at the fingers, because you are under the delusion that you have some kind of inside know ... read on There once was a second tier cable/satellite network that was devoted to all things high-technology, it was TechTV. Then, it became G4TechTV. Then it became G4 Videogame Television. Now, it has become, G4 Star Trek-Man Show-Fastlane TV. It is rarely about the videogames any more, its primary programming is two Gene Roddenberry created shows, an old Comedy Central show, and ... read on Well, big news last week, as it was discovered that the fine team at Rockstar North was working on a “pornographic” mini-game in their title Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas released last fall to store shelves. What's more is that the mini-game was never removed from the final disc sent out to the general public. So if you really want to cheat and view the salacious scene, yo ... read on Well, it's been over a week since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been released, and already I am losing massive chunks of my life. I pick it up to play for a few minutes, a few minutes turn into 6 hours. The game is addictive. All of the GTA games have been addictive, but this one is HUGE and thusly, makes me want to work harder to unlock all of the map areas (did t ... read on Jack Thompson needs to get a hobby. His psychotic obsession with things he hates is getting to be absurd. You may remember him taking on rappers and losing. You may remember him railing against the Grand Theft Auto franchise. You may even remember him admitting on television that he is a pedophile bed wetter. If you remember the last one, I'd like a copy of that to view. ... read on Microsoft is becoming a serious bore lately. Their Xbox development group has taken it upon themselves to spread as much FUD as possible about the upcoming PLAYSTATION 3. This of course is not an unusual act by Microsoft, after all back in 1998 they had some lovely internal memos which found their way out onto the Internet. These documents are now affectionately called the ... read on Yesterday, it was unveiled. All I have seen are screenshots. But the screenshots reportedly come from real time game action. Alpha software. It is awesome. Xbox 360, will fail. When Microsoft first began handing out pictures and video of their new console, it looked good. But, only slightly better than the current Xbox. The Playstation 3 screens make the Xbox and its su ... read on Well, the price of the Playstation 3 has finally been announced. It is going to be expensive, exactly as Ken Kutaragi warned us all at last year's E3. Yet, many an Xbox360 fan has taken the opportunity to rub the price in the face of the Playstation loyalists. I have one thing to say to them, the Xbox360 is overpriced. This price is no shock to anyone who has been follo ... read on Well, the Playstation 3 is now officially on the market, even if it is not in all practicality available. Sure, you could take your chances on some douche bag on eBay, but I think I can wait a bit. It was a horrible release. Never mind the numerous rumors about Sony releasing half of what they claimed they would. Never mind that there were shootings, stabbings, muggings, a ... read on All the technology news and gaming outlets are covering the current generation console war and the continually compare the PLAYSTATION 3 sales with the Wii from Nintendo. This is very annoying, as a fan and owner of both, I'd like them to focus on the games, and not the hardware. The hardware is a big deal before they're released, then it should be about the games. Everybo ... read on Finally. The PLAYSTATION 3 is available worldwide. Enough of the bellyaching from folks in Europe that they don't have it yet, no more bitching from the Aussie's about their lack of PS3s. Except that people still are, the biggest gripe is about the cost. Granted, it is a legitimate gripe, but the prices were set and comparing the cost to US dollars or Japanese Yen is silly ... read on Hi all! I've taken the day off of work to go to the doctor, perhaps to have my spleen removed. Since I have nothing to do until my appointment, I would like to laud Rockstar Games again, for the free press they're getting. These cats are genuine miracle workers when it comes to the free press. First they had the hot coffee mod, that allowed people to see a lame porno ga ... read on I've ranted about sex in video games, and how lame both the content and the outrage at it has become. But now, I would like to say a few things about violence in video games. It may desensitize players to onscreen violence, but I don't believe that it has an effect on our reactions to real life violence. Nor does it make a person more likely to commit a violent act. I p ... read on This will probably be my last rant of '05, unless I am struck with lots of inspiration before '06 is official. So, I decided to take a look at the launch of the Xbox360 from Microsoft. While I do not own an Xbox360, and have no intentions to ever own one, I have been following the soap opera that has been its launch. It all began the week before E3, when Microsoft in an ... read on It has been a pleasure having your visit.
