Central Standard Time
Biph Thursday, June 30, 2005 Each year, twice a year, the vast majority of Americans reset their clocks to and from Daylight Savings Time. Each year for over 6 months, I am tortured by morons who say their time zone and seem to erroneously believe that it is always “standard” time.
Where I work, we are in a different time zone than most of the customers we work with. Consequently, people need to make clear what their time zone is, which is fine. However, there are people who without questioning how stupid they sound, in a feeble attempt to sound more professional, include the qualifier found in the middle of an official measure of time. Instead of saying, “I work from 8:00am to 5:00pm Central Time,” they will say, “I work from 8:00am to 5:00pm Central Standard Time.” This drives me to the edge, every flippin' time. Alright, not every flippin' time, it bothers me not from the last Sunday of October to the First Sunday of April, because then it is true. Unfortunately, most of the year is spent in Daylight time. I have never heard these über-professionals say, “I work from 8:00am to 5:00pm Central Daylight Time.” The reason that this pisses me off so much is because the intent is to be more accurate in the description of one's time, but it ends up being completely wrong for over 50% of the year. I think that there should be a law against falsely representing your time zone. The only two time zones that have the same time as me at this moment are Indiana Standard Time and Eastern Standard Time, I am currently living it up at Central Daylight Time. Basically, I want people to stop saying the friggin' “standard” if they don't know what the hell it means. Say, “Central Time” and I will be cool with that. Or “Arizona Time” or any other accurate depiction of the correct time locally, just don't use the “standard” out side of “standard” time. 'Cause everytime I hear it I want to ask them what time it is and smash their forehead with a clock set to the real “standard” time. Friggin' monkeys. Print View Thank you for visiting biph.com.
