The Victims of Bernie Madoff
Biph Friday, March 13, 2009 Bernie Madoff is a scumbag, I think most people would be able to agree with that statement. But, now his victims are coming out crying for their bailout, after all, they lost millions of dollars each to this slimy bastard. Well, unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree with them on that.
It sucks that you lost your money, it truly does. However, if you were so stupid as to give a man who had nothing more than suspiciously consistent returns for his investors, you didn't deserve the money you gave him to begin with. Even the poor and ignorant, as these rich folks would label regular people, know that if something appears to be too good to be true, it isn't. Yet, they handed the money over to be invested expecting huge returns. Any financial planner worth a damn will never guarantee you returns, and that consistent returns are a sign that there is something wrong, whether it be a ponzi scheme such as Madoff's or income from illegal activities. Now that Madoff is going to jail, I've been hearing sound bites from poor little rich girls who have lost their life savings. Really? It must be tough to lose more money than the vast majority of Americans will make in their entire lifetimes. If regular people can retire on less than a million dollars, I guess you'd better save up another few million, or cut back on your lifestyle. What Bernie did was illegal, and he should pay restitution, but there's no way he'll ever be able to pay back all of what he took. These victims need to realize that even if Bernie was on the up-and-up they could have lost everything, investments carry an inherent risk. If you meet someone who tells you that they've removed the risk, you are dealiing with an idiot or a liar. Take whatever little bit of restitution you can get from the funds the government is able to dig up, and get on with your life. Going to the media crying over your lost money will win you absolutely no points with the public, I know I'm not going to be writing a check to you when you are making far and away more money than me, I'll save that for the Target store where I'll get something in return of similar value. It is my guess that these people coming out of the woodwork crying about their ruined future are doing it to get publicity and a government bailout, 'cause we don't want them to change their lifestyles. I'm also guessing that they will get their government check. Our current government is run by people who can't even seem to pay their frickin' taxes on time, and our Congress has demonstrated that they and the President cannot spend the people's money responsibly. After they quietly get their bailout, I only wonder, when will I get mine? Print View Thank you for visiting biph.com.
